I completed Offa's Dyke as part of a much larger challenge - walking over 1000 miles around the whole perimeter of Wales (ODP and the Wales Coast Path). Living only three miles from the dyke, I walked out of my front door in Presteigne to join it at Granner Wood. Turning north, I reached Prestatyn after 7 days and then 8 weeks of coastal walking later, I rejoined the ODP at Sedbury Cliffs. I left home on 26th July 2016 and arrived back to see family and friends on 1st October following the greatest experience of my life. I'd raised over £5700 for Alzheimer's Society, learned so much about my home country and made many new friends along the way. Focusing on the Offa's Dyke Path, it provided me with 12 days of fantastic walking. The scenery changes every day, from the beauty of the Wye Valley to the expansive views from the summits of the Black and Clwydian Mountains. There is plenty history to interest you along the trail too with castles, ruins, forts, ancient woodlands and mile after mile of walking along the 1200 year old earthworks themselves. The people on the dyke are friendly too. I made many friends while hiking, including Sharon and Leigh who I walked with for a couple of afternoons, Allan who celebrated with us in Prestatyn and trail officer, Rob Dingle, who said while we were walking together that "Every day on the dyke has something different to Offa." I couldn't have said it better myself. Although it was a small part of my challenge, the ODP played a huge part in my overall enjoyment. If you have the chance to travel this historic journey through the borderlands, grab it with both hands. You won't regret it!
