The Tertiary World

23 Apr 2017

General event

Learn about the geology, climate and ecology of the ancient world after the extinction of the dinosaurs. The morning will be a classroom session. During the afternoon we will explore the coast towards Herne Bay which preserves evidence of life from this time.

The workshop leader says

"During a classroom session at the visitor centre in the morning we will explore this Tertiary world and see how these events are recorded in British geology. After lunch we will walk along the beach towards Herne Bay to see some of the early Tertiary rocks and fossils exposed in the eroding cliffs. Gaining the cliff top via the stairs at Bishopstone Gap we will find Ice Age gravels and stream channels from an early stage of the River Stour as we return to the Centre."

Please bring a hand lens if you have one and clothing suitable for a couple of hours walking along the beach and along the grassy cliff top..
